Abstract (p. 173): This article is based on missionary sources on the cult of Mazu practiced by Minnan sailors, on whose ships many missionaries sailed en route toChina. It compares devotional practices of Mazu with those of the Virgin Mary as maritime patroness and suggest a theory of cultural convergence in understanding conversion to Christianity.
