很荣幸今天站在这里，为你们简要介绍拉丁语言文化中心的缘起、结构和目标。

First of all thank to you all for your participation. It is a great pleasure to be able to stand today in front of you and to present briefly the origin, structure and purpose of Latinitas Sinica

我的发言将以拉丁语言文化中心及今日中国的拉丁语状况为主题。

My talk is about this Centre of Latin Language and Culture called“Latinitas Sinica”, therefore about Latin language in China today.

Autem, re vera, sermo latinus in Sinis ab antiquitate adfuit. Sinae et Europa longam habent historiam atque necessitudines inter utrasque a temporibus quibus Romanus principatus vigebat coeperunt.

事实上，在古代拉丁语已在中国出现。自罗马帝国时代以降，中国和欧洲有着一段漫长的交流史。

However, as a matter of fact, Latin has been present in China since antiquity. China and Europe have a long history and exchanges between the two began with the Roman Empire.

De Collegii Origine / Origin of the centre /中心缘起

近年来，北京外国语大学的拉丁语教学与始建于1996年的中国海外汉学研究中心的发展紧密相连。

The teaching of Latin at Beijing Foreign Studies University has been in the last few years closely linked with the recent history of the National Research Center of Overseas Sinology, established in 1996.

从2006-2007学年以来，通过与罗马慈幼会大学的协议，借助香港思高公司旨在推动中西大学交流的“中欧交流奖学金”的支持，汉学中心每年派遣学生赴慈幼会大学古典语言文学系学习拉丁语言文化。

Since the academic year 2006-2007 the Center, through an agreement of cooperation with the Salesian University (UPS) of Rome and the support of SEECO (Sino-European Exchange Students Scholarship), an association of Hong Kong for the promotion of university exchange between China and the West, has sent Chinese students to Rome to attend the faculty of Latin of UPS, whose official name isPontificium Institutum Altioris Latinitatis.

汉学中心之所以对拉丁语有着特别的兴趣，原因在于一个历史事实：至迟到18世纪末，西方关于中国的许多材料是以拉丁文撰写的。

The reason why the Sinology Center has a particular interest in Latin is due to the historical fact that much of the Western material about China, at least until the end of 18^thcentury, was written in Latin.

近年来，汉学中心研究生答辩通过的一些富有意义的硕博士论文是以拉丁文材料为基础撰写的，而这些材料常常是未刊的。

In the last years some very significant Master and Doctoral Dissertations discussed at the Sinology Center were based on original material – often unpublished manuscripts – written in Latin.

Michael Ruggierus, Mattheus Riccius, Philippus Coupletus, Prosperus Intorcetta, Henricus de Premare, Athanasius Kircherius atque innumeri alii auctores scripserunt de Sinis latina lingua utentes.

罗明坚、利玛窦、柏应理、殷铎泽、马若瑟、基歇尔等难以计数的早期汉学家均用拉丁文撰写中国。

Michele Ruggieri, Matteo Ricci, Philippe Couplet, Prospero Intorcetta, Henri de Premare, Athanasius Kircher and innumerable other early sinologists wrote about China in Latin.[1]

汉学中心希望对西方的中国知识进行全面的研究，因此不能忽视大量拉丁语历史材料。

As the Sinology centre aims at athoroughknowledge of Western studies about China, it cannot neglect the vast amount of historical material produced in Latin.

Ad hoc faciendum, oportet ut magistri atque discipuli periti hac lingua fiant, vel saltem satis eam intelligant.

为了实现这一目标，我们需要精通或至少熟悉拉丁语的学者和学生。

In order topursuethis objective it is necessary to have students and scholars specialized in, or at least familiar with, this language.

因此，从2006年开始，汉学中心每年有一至二名学生赴罗马学习拉丁语。

So, since 2006, every year one or two students from the Sinology Center went to Rome to study Latin.

与此同时，北京外国语大学学术委员会开始筹划对研究生开设拉丁语课程。

About the same time the academic authorities of Beijing Foreign Studies University began to plan for having courses of Latin as a specific language open to post-graduates students.

Cursus linguae latinae coepit anno Domini MMVIII-MMIX. Prima magistra fuit Myrtill Lenkefi, a Universitate Budapestini (Hungaria).

该课程自2008-2009学年开始，任课人为匈牙利布达佩斯大学古典学教授Myrtill Lenkefi女士。

The courses began during the school year 2008-2009, with ProfessorMyrtill Lenkefi, a teacher of Classics from the University of Budapest (Hungary).

Ab anno Domini MMIX-MMX latinum sermonem docere munus meum est.

从接下来的2009-2010学年开始至今，拉丁语教学便由我本人负责。

From the following school year, 2009-2010, the teaching of Latin as been entrusted to me.

Uno quoque anno discipuli circa octoginta sunt.In hac studiorum universitate scholae habentur ad docentiam latinam linguam pro incipientibus atque progredientibus. Nec autem deficiunt scholae ad litteras latinas instituendas tam classicas quam christianas.

每年我共有约80名学生。除拉丁语初级课程之外，学校还开设了中级课程以及拉丁基督教文学课程。

Every year, between the first and second term, I have about 80 students. Besides initial Latin (Beginners course), the school is able to offer intermediate level, a course of Western Latin classics and also a course on Latin Christian Literature.

通常会聘请汉学中心的一位硕士或博士生担任助教。

Usually a master or doctoral student from the Sinology Centre acts as assistant.

参加拉丁语课程的学生多数来自英语学院、高级翻译学院，也有一些来自法语系、德语系、欧洲语言文化学院和中国语言文学学院。

The students who attend the Latin course are mostly from theSchool of English and International Studiesand theGraduate School of Translation and Interpretationand, but some also come from theFrench Department, theGerman Department, theSchool of European Languages and Culturesand theSchool of Chinese Language and Literature.

在北外供职期间，我发现，除本校学生以外，还有其他人对拉丁语感兴趣。

During my service at Beiwai I realized that other people outside the number of the students of my courses were interested in Latin.

三年来，我有幸在中国社会科学院、中国天主教神哲学院、意大利驻华使馆Leonardo da Vinci学校以及北外培训学院等地教授拉丁语。

In this three years I had chance to teach Latin at the Academy of Social Science, at theCatholic National Seminary, at the School“Leonardo da Vinci”of the Italian Embassy in Beijing, and at the Beiwai Training College.

我还经常应邀翻译各种拉丁语文章。

I have been contacted often for translations of Latin words in various articles.

渐渐地，我们有了一个想法：如何更好地回应对拉丁语教学的需求？于是，在北外和汉学中心的领导下，我们在今年开设一个服务于拉丁研究的中心。

So the idea is: is there anything we can do to meet this need and request of some Latin teaching? The answer is that in cooperation with Beiwai and under the leadership of Sinology centre, this year we open a centre for Latin studies.

Structura / Structure /机构

Mea sententia, Latinitas Sinica exstitit velut res publicas, ut melius dicam forum, ubi omnes quorum ex Sinis refert ut ediscant Latinum sermonem congregare possunt.

该中心首先是一个在中国对拉丁语感兴趣的人们的理想聚会场所。

The centre is most of all an ideal meeting place of people interested in Latin in China.

Nec auditoria nec bibliotheca, at peritia societasque nobis adhuc sunt.

目前，我们还没有专门的教室或图书馆，但拥有专业队伍与学术联系。

There are, for now, no special classrooms or libraries, but there are expertise and connections.

专业队伍包括：目前，在汉学中心的领导与监督下，拉丁中心配备有一位教授、两位曾在罗马学习过拉丁语的研究员以及一位也曾就读于罗马、从事兼职工作的博士生。

Expertise: at the moment at the Latin centre, under the leadership and supervision of the Sinology Centre, there are one professor and two researchers who have studied Latin in Rome, plus the part time cooperation of another doctoral student who also studied Latin in Rome.

Quot scholae in Sinis habent quattuor magistros qui Romae latinum didicerunt? Discipula alia cito ad Romam progressura est. Discipula alia iam apud Romam Latinae linguae atque Graecae discipula est, eaque magistra in Sinis erit.

在中国有多少学术中心拥有四位曾在罗马学习拉丁语的成员？本月，我们又有一位学生将赴罗马学习。另有一位曾就读于罗马的学生现在重返罗马学习拉丁语、希腊语，以便将来回国为拉丁语教学服务。

How many academic centres in China have among its members four people who studied Latin in Rome? One more student will go to study Latin in Rome in June. Another former student is studying now in Rome Latin and Greek in view of a future contribution to the teaching of Latin in China.

Societates: eae sunt cum scholis in Pekini quae docent antiquas occidentales literas, in primis Studiorum Universitas Pekinensis et Studiorum Universitas Populi, atque cum Romae Pontificio Instituto Altioris Latinitatis.

学术联系则首先在于和北京从事西方古典学研究的其他机构（如北京大学和中国人民大学）以及罗马慈幼会大学古典语言文学系的合作。

The connections are most of all with other centres in Beijing specialized in Western Classical studies (first of all Beida and Renmin Daxue) and with the FLCC of the Salesian University in Rome.

Propositum / Purpose /目标

拉丁中心旨在推动拉丁语言文化在中国的学习和研究。具体措施包括：

The centre aims at promoting the study of Latin Language and Culture in China, by various means.

I) Alendo artes latinae lingue docendi et discendi

首先，支持拉丁语在中国的教学。

Supporting the learning and teaching of Latin Language in China.

Hoc anno gratias agimus Studiorum Universitati Pekinensi Linguarum Peregrinarum et benefactores quia secundus cursus aestivus linguae latinae effici potest. Proximo anno habemus 170 discipulos et discipulas. Hoc anno eundem habemus numerum, atque cursum medium offerabimus.

特别是今年，感谢北外和一些资助者的支持，我们得以开设第二届夏季拉丁课程。去年我们有170位学生，今年报名人数已达到同等水平，满足了马上开课的要求。

In particular this year we are grateful to Beiwai and to some benefactors for allowing us to organize the second Summer Latin Course. Last year we had 170 students, this year we have already reached the same number, with the possibility also to offer a intermediate Latin class.

除北外的常规课程以外，我本人和罗莹博士还在培训学院、意大利驻华使馆以及中国天主教神哲学院等地教授拉丁语。

Both myself and Luo Ying are teaching, besides Beiwai regular courses, classes of Latin at the Training College, at the Italian Embassy and at the Catholic National Seminary of China.

II) Provehendo studia linguae humanitatisque latinarum in Sinis. Academia nostra adiuvare potest discipulos et magistros quibus vertere Latina documenta necesse est.

其次，推进中国在拉丁语言文化领域的研究。这一目标可以通过为在处理拉丁文献时需要支持的师生们提供合作等形式来实现。

Promoting research in China in the field of Latin Language and Culture. This is done by offering our collaboration to students or teachers who need support when dealing with Latin texts.

III) Studendo Sinologiam latinam. Luo Ying ad hoc peritiam habet, quia Confuci Sinarum philosophi versiones investigavit. Egomet cum professore Zhang Xiping collaboro ad vertendum antiquorum sinologorum latina documenta.

再次，拉丁语汉学领域的研究。对此，凭借对于儒学早期拉丁翻译的研究，罗莹博士已具备了一定学样。我本人也同张西平教授合作，致力于早期汉学家拉丁语材料的翻译工作。

Researching the area of Latin Sinology. Here Luo Ying has a special expertise for her research on early Latin translations of Confucius. I myself work in close collaboration with prof Zhang Xiping for the translation of Latin material from Early Sinologists.

IV) Studendo versiones e latina lingua ad linguam sinensem. Academia nostra in primis alit studia de antiquis Sinensibus Sacrorum Bibliorum versionibus (colloquium de eodem argumento paravimus) et de cetera versiones latinorum documentorum.

第四，早期拉丁文献中文译本研究。拉丁中心特别推动对《圣经》早期中文翻译的研究（我们和汉学中心一道组织过关于该主题的研讨会）以及拉丁文献的早期中文翻译研究（如《神学大全》、《弥撒书》等）。

Researching the area of Early Latin to Chinese Translations. The Centre favors in particular the research on the early Chinese translation of the Bible (together with Sinology Centre we organized a symposium on this topic) and on early Chinese translations of Latin texts (Summa Theologiae, Missals, etc)

V) Offerendo societati sinensi nonnulla ministeria de lingua et humanitate latinis. E toto mundo omnes qui intersunt Latinum in Sinis ad nostra academiam venire potest.

第五，为中国社会提供关于拉丁语言文化的多样服务，为世界上对拉丁语在中国的状况感兴趣的机构提供参照。

Offering to Chinese society various services related to Latin Language and Culture, being a reference for institutions around the world interested in Latin Language in China.

Here we hope to work with you all for a coordination of efforts and the diffusion of knowledge and information.

Anno MMXI Studiorum Universitas Pekinensis Linguarum Peregrinarum habuit primum colloquium de latina lingua docenda in Sinis. Secundum ea habebit anno MMXIII aut MMXIV

2011年北外举办了首届“中国高校拉丁语教学研讨会”，第二届研讨会将于2013或2014年举行。

In 2011 Beiwai held the First Conference on the Teaching of Latin in China. A second conference will be held in 2013 or 2014.

VI) Uno quoque anno edendo ephemeridem de studiis latinis in Sinis.Zhang Mingming hoc munus habet. Ad hoc faciendum speramus cum ceteris scholasticis una agere.

第六，每年出版一期拉丁文化与中国研究辑刊，张明明博士将负责该工作。同样，在这项工作中，我们也期待与本领域的专家们进行合作。

Publishing every year an issue of a “Journal of Latin Studies in China”. Zhang Mingming is especially in charge of this task. Also for this enterprise we are open to cooperate with any experts in the area,

Chinese students benefit greatly from attending a course of Latin.

Latin is in fact at the root of Western languages and culture and can be considered “the father” of many of them.

70% of English words come from Latin. Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian are directly linked with Latin.

Beiwai is well known all over China for offering the widest range of European languages and a centre for the “father” of these languages is very opportune.

在当前国际交流日益频繁的全球化时代，北京外国语大学与中国海外汉学研究中心特设立拉丁语言文化中心，旨在为中国社会提供了解拉丁语言文化的机会。

In our age of increased international relations and unavoidable globalization Beijing Foreign Studies University and the National Research Centre of Overseas Sinology decided to offer to Chinese society the opportunity of knowing Latin language and culture by supporting Latinitas Sinica.

在许多个世纪的时间里，拉丁语都是西方世界的交流媒介。

For centuries Latin language was the medium of communication of the Western world.

新设的拉丁中心无疑将为中国向世界的进一步开放做出贡献，并将成为举世称羡中国学术成就的又一理由。

This new centre will certainly be a further contribution to China openness to the world and one more reason for the entire world to admire China’s academic excellence.
